SLA 3D Printing

Slicing software​

After training at the Digital Scholarship Centre (DSC), I used SLA slicing software for printing, and I need to consider some unique challenges in SLA printing, such as cupping.

Formlabs Form 2 3D Printer

After starting the print, leave once the first layer is successfully printed, then come back the next morning for washing, curing, removing supports and sanding.

Printing on the fabric

During the printing process, I pause the printing, attach the cloth to the base, and then resume printing. This ensures a strong bond as the layers of PLA material melt together.

Test accuracy

I achieved precise replication of the motherboard to obtain the actual dimensions of the circuit board, and shared it with classmates for their use.

Thanks to assistance and equipment at UofA, I was able to use a cutting machine and bending sheet metal to obtain the iron pieces I desired.

Extensive testing

Bending with different thicknesses and materials, and using various tools, finding the balance between elasticity and durability.

Mold Making

I create designed molds through 3D printing. Then, I pour liquid silicone into the molds, let it cool, and obtain the desired foot pads.

Subwoofer mold

The process of making diaphragms is similar to the production of tires, where shaping is achieved through the compression of upper and lower molds.

By testing various fabrics, I gained insights into how different materials impact both sound quality and tactile sensation.

In the end, I chose vinyl over 3D-printed parts, as I discovered that printing on fabrics without coarse perforations was impractical.
